Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History
The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History was established in 2006 as a way to preserve the heritage of railroads and the American Civil War. The museum was initially known as the Kennesaw Civil War Museum, but expanded its focus to include railroads throughout the South. The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History is home to one of the most famous locomotives in history, the General. This steam engine was stolen during the Civil War, but it was recovered after a lawsuit was won by the State of Georgia. The General locomotive, which was once used in cotton gins, is now part of the museum’s exhibits.
