Mobile Stitches and Wound Evaluation
When you have a cut, it is important to get it evaluated. In some cases it might be as simple as disinfectant and a bandaid. In other cases, stitches, also known as sutures, might be necessary. Receiving stitches after cutting your skin open will help prevent scarring, rather than waiting for it to heal without treatment.
Stitches usually only take a few days to heal. In certain cases, it can be up to 2 weeks, depending on the part of the body your wound occurred. Cleaning the suture sight and taking care of the wound will help insure that no infection develops.
A wound typically has 3 phases towards recovery: the inflammatory phase, the proliferative phase, and the remodeling phase. The inflammatory phase is ideally the shortest, lasting only about 4 days, which begins at the time of injury. The Proliferative phase overlaps the other two phases and involves producing new collagen so the skin can prepare for “remodeling”. The remodeling phase is essentially how long it takes said wound to heal completely. Scarring will determine the treatment method and how well the wound is taken care of.
